The Z-Wave issue is in fact a problem with the Wink app. I incorrectly assumed they would call me on my registered phone number and then move over to Skype/Facetime. Turns out they may have been looking for me on Skype using the email address I registered with at August. Richard called me within 10-15 minutes as promised and we quickly got this resolved. One suggestion, keep a lockbox with a backup key outside for any type of emergency like that.Īfter another promise of a callback (I asked for Skype - as I am not an A**** type), I called back and insisted on being connected to a Level 2 tech. Fortunately, someone was home, so we were able to get in, because at that point nobody was carrying keys. Overall life of my first August lock was 5 years. It can be delayed sometimes, or if you fat finger your pin, you have to wait about 10 seconds to enter it again, which can be annoying. Only gonna I'd say is the keypad could be a little quicker. If I have the handy man coming for a job, I just give him a pin code for the duration of the project and wipe it from my phone when he's done. The connect is awesome I can open the door for guests, friends checking on the place, etc even from outside the country. Just buy a huge pack fr Amazon and swap them when you get the notification of a low battery (which you receive about a week before they die). ![]() We have 5 people coming and going and the batteries typically last a month, or month and a half. Easy to install, and almost no maintenance.īattery life is pretty good. I use these so I never have to replace lost keys at my house. I'm very happy with the current product and functionality of the August and the connect and keypad. These have come a LONG way since they came out. ![]() Many guests just use the code (normally the older ones) However if paired with an August Keypad - which I purchased about 3 months after the lock then you can give the guests access both via the app - or via a simple keypad code. One downside is that to set up the device up so that you have admin control over access your phone needs to be adjacent to the lock, so if you live in Houston and have a rental in Florida - you need to take a trip to Florida to set it all up!Īnother minor downside is that users do get confused when they have to download the August App and sometimes they give up - but in reality is is not that hard. I can also open the door remotely if for example I have a plumber who needs access to the house. ![]() I can also see the status of the door remotely - and if it was left open by the guest or the cleaner after a stay then I get notifications and can lock it remotely. But to do this over the internet you also need to purchase the August Connect device and connect that to your in-house internet. and everybody has the same code which can be a safety issue - the August lock overcomes this. ![]() This has avoided the need for giving out keys and way better than old key-pad devices which you can not change remotely. It is fantastic that you can set up codes on the guests phone which only last when a guest is at a rental - and you can see who and when they have arrived / departed - and when cleaners have been at the house and for how long. Actually, I love it and it is a life changer in a number of ways for my Rental which I manage remotely.
